Schlüter

A success story begins: In 1966, the young master tiler Werner Schlueter founded a new company in Saerbeck, which has meanwhile made a name for itself worldwide as Schlueter-Systems. Only two years after founding the company, Werner Schlueter relocated to Iserlohn, where the company headquarters are still located today. There are now international service offices and other branches in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, France and Turkey.

Werner Schlueter and the SCHIENE, the first patented Schlueter product.
During a construction project in the mid-1970s, Werner Schlueter faced the challenge of laying Florentine mosaic tiles neatly in a bathroom. Typically, the exposed tile edges were prone to chipping and cracking.

Werner Schlueter concluded that a metal L-bracket fitted prior to laying the tiles would not only serve as an edge protector but would also conceal the unglazed edge and create a straight and clean transition to the adjacent surfaces.

A suitable product was not yet on the market at the time, so with the help of a toolmaker friend, he developed the first tile strip: Schlüter-SCHIENE was patented and brought to market.
